Shuhei Hatano was born in 1980 in Tottori and currently lives in Tokyo. He is a graduate of the Moving Images and Performing Arts Department at Tama Art University. His major films include Trail (2012), Origin of Shadows (2017, Tokyo Documentary Film Festival 2018 Short Film Competition Grand Prize), I Remember (2021, Festival Film Dokumenter Yogyakarta 2022 Best International Feature-Length Documentary) and Radiance (2024, 60th Pesaro International  Film Festival Young Jury Award Special Mention).

主な作品に TRAIL （2012・ユーロスペース）、影の由来（2017・東京ドキュメンタリー映画祭2018 短編部門グランプリ）、私はおぼえている（2021・ジョグジャカルタ国際ドキュメンタリー映画祭2022 最優秀国際長編ドキュメンタリー賞）、それはとにかくまぶしい（2024・第60回ペーザロ国際映画祭 若手審査員特別賞）がある。
